Why Is Virgin America Different?

Since launching in 2007, Virgin America has quickly garnered rave reviews and a strong cult following. The airline, an extension of the Richard Branson empire, prides itself on shaking up the mundane airplane experience with mood lighting, great food, better use of technology, and a sense of humor.

Virgin America Mood Lighting

The first unusual element that you are going to notice when you board a Virgin America flight is the mood lighting. Such a clever idea!

The purple mood lighting in the Virgin America cabin is meant to give flyers the feeling of being in a lounge. It's very hip and also happens to be very relaxing!

Mood lighting is a great example of Virgin America's attention to detail.

Virgin America Dining Experience

Anyone who flies frequently will tell you that one of the more annoying in-flight experiences is trying to flag down a flight attendant. On especially packed flights, it can feel like pulling teeth to try to get a hold of someone just so that you can order a soda. Not anymore!

Virgin America has thought through this common inconvenience and has provided a pretty solid remedy. They've taken the guesswork out of wondering what's on the menu and how much it costs by making it available on the screen just in front of you. Want a soda? Order it yourself and it will be delivered to you in minutes.

Dining Presentation

Absolutely no one looks forward to eating airplane food. No one.

For the first time, Virgin America has provided a dining experience that flyers can look forward to and ponder about. They are the first airline that successfully makes you, the passenger, feel that they care about the quality of your meal just as much as you do.

Charge It Up!

No more dead iPhones or laptops!

On Virgin America, you can plug in and charge away! For longer flights, this feature is heaven sent!

What Else is Boring About Airplanes?

Do you watch the in-flight safety videos? Probably not. Why? Because they are probably from the 1980's, they're super boring, and you're sure that everything you need to know is written down on the safety handout in front of you.

To the amusement of long time passengers everywhere, Virgin America has made the safety video fun to watch. It's animated, humorous, and clever.

Bye-bye, outdated safety videos. Check it out:

Very cool. Recently a friend was explaining to me the Virgin experience. I don't have the money to do that right now, but I plan on giving them a try. These little enhancements may not seem like much, but they no doubt have a big impact on the experience.

I have to admit, I like the colors and feel of the regular airline cabins. I love to fly and the regular sights and sounds of airline travel make me feel right at home. I'm afraid Virgin travel might spoil me. But then again, maybe I should go to get ready for the Virgin space flights.

Good hub.

The inflight video was really smart and even though I haven't had a chance to experience the airlines yet, it definitely looks very cool!

I've always flown Southwest, due to pricing. Hopefully, the next time I need to fly I may go Virgin. Love the mood lighting.
