American Idol Shock! Pia Toscano's Idol Elimination

Perhaps the greatest upset in American Idol history happened on the Idol stage when Pia Toscano was eliminated leaving eight contestants left to battle it out for the American Idol title.

Randy said it was the first time on the show he was ever that upset. Jennifer Lopez was on the brink of tears as she said that she was confused and “angry.” Pia contained composure until the end when she broke down to tears and cried in Jacob’s arms. All eliminations on American Idol are sad, but for Pia to be kicked off so early was shocking.

It forces us to consider the demographics of the American Idol voters. If you look at the last few Idol winners, you’ll notice a trend towards male acoustic pop singers appealing to a younger female demographic.

Honestly though, Pia Toscano’s early elimination must have been the foolish assumption by the American Idol voters that she is just too good to be endangered in the competition. Vocally speaking, she is one of the most if not the strongest singer of American Idol Season 10.

Easily comparable to Mariah, Whitney, and my personal inclination is to compare her to Celine Dion, the truth is, Pia Toscano doesn’t really belong in this competition to begin with. She’s ready to record now. She was ready, it seems, at birth.

Unfortunately for us, we’ll have to wait since Idol doesn’t allow for any contestants to produce records until after the Idol winner has had their moment to shine, but there’s no question that Pia Toscano is destined for a mega star career, one that will probably outshine whoever wins American Idol Season 10.
