After a devastating break-up, I jumped right into self-help books. The first several books were about healing your broken heart, but as time went on, I expanded my reading on to an interrelated topic of living life as a single woman.

Living happily single after such heartache can be a very difficult change and takes some time for adjustment. I wanted to read a few books on the topic for comfort and guidance, to see that there are other woman out there with similar experiences, and that I too could survive and even possibly thrive.

The introduction describes this book as "a peek into the everyday life of ordinary singles- part memoir, part self-help, part inspiration- the message of Single... is about being satisfied and happy as an individual, whether you end up in a relationship or not." This description is accurate and the book is well worth the read.

It's a small book and the cover evokes the feeling of a fun, cheapy, vintage inspired book for girls to pass the time. I'm going to say this: this is a fun, cheapy book, vintage inspired looking book, but there is sincere value in its pages.

The first and most appealing aspect of this book is Ford's writing style. She is fun, lighthearted, forward and to the point! Reading this book is like going to an all girl's night with fun banter and juicy exchanges. With her free flowing sassy and conversational language, it is easy to forget that the subject matter she discusses is real and timely.

She successfully covers serious topics and concerns of woman of all ages without making you feel overwhelmed.Instead, she makes you feel like you've been initiated into a different realm of living, one that can be enormously fulfilling.

When all said and done, I do recommend picking up this book. First of all, I bought this book on Amazon (as I do all my books) and I have to tell you: this book was super cheap! A bargain buy, if you will. Because of this, I really didn't have high expectations for the book but I can honestly say that it is a spirited and friendly read appropriate for women of all ages and stages of life.

It's a book that can lift your spirits and lighten your mood when you're feeling down, give you a little more pep in your step to keep you going. Its a fun beach read, for sure, and a would be a fun gift for any young girl.

If you are on the quest for a more academic perspective on the female experience alone, you're better off taking a look at On My Own by Frances Falk. While approaching the same subject, these two books could not be more different. You can learn more about this book here:
